People first walking into HR-57 are often heard making the comment, “This is what a jazz club is supposed to look like.” While HR-57 is officially a non-profit center dedicated to the preservation of jazz and blues, most patrons know the low-profile spot as an informal place to listen to “music for the people, by the people” with friends, with a first date or solo. Wednesdays and Thursdays are jam session nights, Fridays and Saturdays are usually more of feature nights for local and sometimes national talent.

Directions: Just north of 14th and Q Streets, NW. By Metro: 5 blocks west of the Dupont Circle Metro Station on the Red line and 5 blocks south-east of the U Street/Cardozo Metro Station on the Green line.
